Read the pledge

I am opposed to the construction of a third Coal Export Terminal at Newcastle Harbour, or the expansion of existing terminals. The third terminal alone would increase Newcastle coal exports – already the highest in the world – by 66 million tonnes per annum, producing 160 million tonnes of greenhouse pollution.

This would be the climate change equivalent of doubling the domestic greenhouse emissions of the state of New South Wales.

With the world in a climate change crisis, such a massive expansion of coal exports is unconscionable. If government and industry push ahead with these plans, I will take Peaceful Direct Action against the construction of a third Coal Export Terminal in Newcastle, or the expansion of existing terminals.

The planet cannot afford an expansion of the coal industry.
